Iron Man review

Iron Man is the latest Marvel superhero to become a big budget movie and also, inevitably, a videogame to coincide with the film’s release. This is the first time Marvel have had total control over one of their games and unfortunately, the result is rather average. I haven’t seen the film but judging by the cut scenes and story, the game takes you through some scenes from the movie and some brand new scenarios just for the game. If you haven’t seen the film you get a gist of what’s going on but the game doesn’t explain why Stark becomes...

The World Ends With You review

The World Ends With You is a new departure for Square Enix in that it has elements of role-playing but a very different style to its usual fare. In this game that looks like a cross between a Gorillaz music video and a funky manga cartoon, you play as a character called Neku. One day you wake up in the trendy streets of Tokyo and get a message on your mobile saying you’ll cease to exist in seven days if you don’t complete a number of tasks in time. You also discover other people who’ve been sent this message and...

Run the Gauntlet for the DS

Eidos have announced Gauntlet is coming to the DS later this year. I spent many a minute in the arcades huddled round the four-player machine as a Valkyrie, Elf, Wizard or Barbarian. They promise to revitalise the 80s game with new graphics and I guess you’ll be tapping on the screen with the stylus to shoot or pointing where you want your character to go. There’ll be 40 maps and VoIP so you can chat to your mates as you collect keys, shoot generators and nick food when you really should have left it for your low-on-health mate. And if...

DS gets Trauma Center sequel

Those of you who liked playing Doctors and Nurses when the DS first came out can get ready for more blood and guts with a new title currently called Trauma Center – Under The Knife 2. Those of you who found it a little too hard will be glad to hear there’s a new mode which will hopefully be called ‘Easy Mode’ and the game will once again feature Dr Stiles and Nurse Angie after they discovered the dreaded GUILT virus from the last game. There’s not much else announced but we’re sure there’ll be new advances in medicine since...

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker review

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (or DQM for short) is what I would call a Pokémon type game. These titles generally start off with you controlling a young outcast who wants to become the world champion of this and that by means of capturing wild creatures, training them to be stronger fighters by throwing them into a ring of combat with other wild creatures that in turn you want to capture to battle even stronger monsters later on. If I were to do this in real life the RSPCA would come arrest me (and rightly so). As you can probably tell...
