Spore

Spore review

Developers Maxis have been letting us all play god for some while now. We’ve run huge metropolises with Sim City, had fun with a virtual doll’s house with The Sims, and now Will Wright’s gone all Darwin on us with Spore. It’s marketed as a personal universe in a box. Sounds like a deep and meaningful game but actually what you get is five mini games which vary in complexity as you play through the stages. You begin as a single cell and have to play the equivalent of a flash game you may find on the internet. Simply eat...

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 review

Even though last year’s Pro Evo had strange teleporting issues when it came to multiplayer, I still persevered with it for 12 months. Now 2009’s out, it’s time to put that one aside and see if this one improves on last year’s effort. The good news is online is now smoother to play but does have some brand new issues. More about that later, but first, what’s the single player like. The first thing you’ll notice is the menus are all bright and Wii-like. And good news for me, Liverpool finally get to be in the game without being called...

Star Wars The Old Republic

Star Wars The Old Republic

There’s a new Star Wars MMORPG on the way. BioWare and LucasArts are teaming up to bring us Star Wars: The Old Republic. There’s not much more revealed but it’s set thousands of years before Darth Vader got his nice shiny helmet and will hopefully be very good – if you’ve got lots of time on your hands. Fallout 3

Fallout 3 cancelled

It’s bad news everyone. Fallout 3 has been cancelled! Well actually, only in India. Microsoft, who were distributing the game in India say they’re not releasing it due to cultural sensitivities. Maybe Sony can learn a thing or two from this after their Little Big Planet delay.

STALKER Clear Sky

STALKER Clear Sky review

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is back with a standalone expansion pack called STALKER Clear Sky. The good news is you won’t need the original game to play it, however you’ll probably have wanted to play the original as it will prepare you for what is a rock hard prequel – read the original STALKER review to see why I thought it deserved an 8 out of 10. Set before the last adventure in the year 2011, you once again play a Merc who’s exploring the area around Chernobyl after a second cataclysmic disaster. However, things are different this time as massive anomalies keep...

Mercenaries 2

Mercenaries 2 review

Apparently lots of the gaming world have been waiting impatiently for the release of Mercenaries 2 after they enjoyed the first game on the PS2 and Xbox. I must admit I can’t remember it so I haven’t been chomping at the bit to play it. Still, now I’ve got it so this is what you do. You play as one of three Mercenaries as you do a number of missions for five competing factions in and around Venezuela. The game begins with you doing a mission for a guy named Solano and getting stabbed in the back for your troubles...
