FIFA 17 review

FIFA 17 is here and now that PES has got Barcelona in the game and on the cover, EA’s cover star is now Marco Reus. Well, at least they don’t have to cope with an ever-changing hair colour. This time the game isn’t just a slightly different game with a higher number – they’ve actually rebuilt the entire game using EA’s Frostbite engine which means better visuals. Of course, they’ve made a few tweaks to the main gameplay which I’ll come to soon, but the biggest thing is the new campaign mode called The Journey. Here, you get to play...

LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens

LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens Release Date

Warner Bros, The Lego Group and Lucasfilm have just announced LEGO Star Wars: the Force Awakens. Yes it’s a bit of a mouthful but this new game in the massive LEGO franchise will let gamers play through key moments of the movie with the little plastic figures on a console instead of with the sort of stuff you’d but in a shop. Expect to control all the main characters from the game such as Rey, Chewie, Han Solo, Finn, Poe and BB8 and also don’t be surprised if you even get to fly the Millennium Falcon about as well! There...

Best Games of 2015

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and it’s also that time again when I run down my favourite games of 2015 so here goes: 5. Batman: Arkham Knight At number five it’s Batman: Arkham Knight. Although Batman does, frankly, look like a bit of a tool, Rocksteady Games do know how to make a great game and this one has notes of horror in there as well! Killing the Joker off in Arkham City was probably the best thing they did in the franchise and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, play it and you’ll see...

LEGO Dimensions

LEGO Dimensions review

LEGO Dimensions is the building block equivalent of very successful ventures already released in the form of Skylanders and Disney Infinity. The premise is simple but also fairly mental in this case – it’s a limitless game which sees all the characters from the LEGO universe come together in one game where Batman can end up in an adventure with Scooby Doo, Doctor Who and Doc from Back to the Future. Think of The LEGO Movie when they all come together from all the dimensions and you’ve got what this game is about. Sort of. Traveller’s Tales are well-known for...

Metal Gear Solid V

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain review

Metal Gear Solid V isn’t actually the 5th game in the Metal Gear series thanks to games such as Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes, however it is the latest in the franchise starring Big Boss, or Punished “Venom” Snake as he’s known here. After Solid, Liquid and Naked etc it’s really hard not to smirk and think that Hideo Kojima really does like jokes about one’s manhood. Anyway, set 9 years after the events in Ground Zeroes, you awaken from a coma and head into Afghanistan and Africa to start a new private military company and raise your own army...

Mortal Kombat X review

The recent reboot of Mortal Kombat in 2011 was a great success. Combining visceral punchy combat with an actual story for once in a fighting game instead of some stills and juxtaposition made for my favourite fighting game, especially since it had so much more to offer as well. Mortal Kombat X expands on this with a roster of brand new fighters, graphical improvements and some very imaginative fatalities! Single player sees another fight between the Earth Realm and the Netherealm as Shinnok comes back from where he was sent in the last game to do all sorts of naughty...
