Resident Evil 5 HD

Resident Evil 5 HD review

Man, have there been a lot of Resident Evil remasters kicking about lately. This time it’s the turn of Resident Evil 5 to come back to life on Xbox One and PS4 with a 1080p up-scale and the add-ons included, all for £16. Just a quick recap on the story, Chris Redfield and local agent Sheva have been assigned to a township in Africa to find a guy called Irving and investigate some naughty goings-on and they soon realise that the people in the town aren’t quite what they seem to be. In fact, they all seem to be rather...

DOOM

DOOM review

Get your ass to Mars – somebody famously once said, can’t remember who. The thing is, why would you want to? It’s red, it’s cold, it has a really bad pollution problem and in this reboot of Doom, it’s full of demons! This version of Doom definitely has the same ethos as id Software’s 1993 original in that it’s absolutely mental and more about arcade action than spooky scares. Doom 3 had us creeping around with a torch, this one has you running about with an arsenal of guns bringing the pain to the spawn of hell with great aplomb....

Overwatch

Overwatch review

I have to admit I didn’t really like the look of Overwatch. The cartoony graphics and the fact it looked very similar to Battleborne which I’ve never thought was going to be any good put me off. Thankfully, my friends and colleagues raved about it so I decided to give it a go and I’m very glad I did. The story – well, there isn’t one really. The game begins with a rousing speech from one of the Overwatch called Winston as he explains that Overwatch were once the purveyors of peace before the public turned on them and they...

Dark Souls III review

I’ve never played a Dark Souls game. Two reasons really, one is that I’ve never really thought it would appeal to me, the other that everyone who plays it says that it’s bloody hard. It’s like eating spicy food. I like a bit of spice, but when it becomes painful, what’s the point? So Dark Souls III promises to deliver more of the same, only better, in the realm of Lothric with a dark, broody world and lots of enemies and huge bosses that will kill you very quickly. The reward is, of course, eventually killing that boss after he’s...

Uncharted 4 review

It seems like an age since I played Uncharted 3 on the PS3. Partially I can blame that on a delay to the original release date for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, but now it’s finally here and I can once again fill the boots of Nathan Drake and a few other characters in his latest adventure for fortune and glory. This time around the game spans a long period in Nathan’s life. We see him as a small boy jumping rooftops of an orphanage along with his brother Sam, take part in a prison break before any of the...

The Division

The Division review

It’s Christmas! Although you wouldn’t want to be in the shoes of the poor citizens of Manhattan in this winter wonderland as there’s a touch of something called dollar flu going around that’s resulted in the city being locked down. As part of the second wave of a team called The Division you’ve been tasked with helping the poor locals out, rebuilding the allied base and also shooting lots of other factions who are up to no good in the face, including the Cleaners whose weapon of choice is frankly, unfair flamethrowers. The game begins with a live action intro...
