Mario Super Sluggers Wii

Blimey, they haven’t even got Mario Kart out of door yet and Nintendo are already spilling the mushrooms on Mario’s next smash hit game. Mario Super Sluggers Wii sees Nintendo’s favourite little plumber picking up his baseball bat once more. Developed by Namco, (yes the ones who made Pacman) Mario Super Sluggers Wii sounds like it will be more extensive than the baseball mode included in Wii Sports, which whilst fun, only covered the basics. The Mario Super Sluggers release date currently a vague ‘later this year’, I think we’ll get a more definitive date when it’s shown at E3...

Wii DVD playback rumour

If you haven’t heard about it already, the people behind the Guinness Book of Records have put together a special 2008 Gamers Edition of the popular reference book. I picked one of these up at the shops last week and found it a darn good read. It’s full of facts and records about gaming since its very beginnings right up until the present day (well, when it was compiled if you want to be exact about it). Being a typical Nintendo fanboy I went straight to the pages about the Wii and DS first; on the specification listings for the...

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Wii review

Don’t laugh when I tell you this but I’ve not bought a beat ‘em up since Mortal Kombat 3 on the Super Nintendo back in 1996. Obviously I’ve played a couple of fighting games since then, Smash Bros and Soul Calibur for example, but overall I’ve had no interest in the genre for many years. So having been a bit out of touch for a while I really wasn’t sure what to expect from Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Wii. The first thing you notice about the game is its name. It’s certainly a bit of a tricky one...

BBC iPlayer for the Wii

The BBC has just announced that a beta version of its Wii compatible iPlayer has been released today. Just visit the BBC iPlayer website using the Internet Channel and the page will automatically load up in the correct format and resolution to view iPlayer programs on your Wii (flash). I’ve just tested the service and can confirm it works very well and unlike YouTube on Wii, did not have any buffering issues. I’m very impressed so far. For those of you who have not downloaded the Opera Internet Channel for Wii you can do so from the Wii Shop Channel...

Mario Kart 7

Mario Kart Grand Wii event

I was lucky enough to live near one of the 30 Game stores that were taking part in the special Mario Kart Wii event on Saturday 5th April. I scuttled down to Portsmouth nice and early to try and have a go at getting on top of the leader board and have a chance of getting into the grand final being held at Brooklands. At the final, four people will be playing for the grand prize, Nintendo themed VW Beetle. The first thing that I did upon arriving was watch some other people race; this gave me the chance to...

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 Wii Version review

So Pro Evolution Soccer has finally come to the Wii and instead of Konami going for a normal conversion, they’ve been very brave and opted to completely remake the game with a revolutionary control system. Being a Pro Evo nut I was sceptical and when I first played the game I was very confused with the control method. The first shock is you don’t even use the analogue stick on the nunchuck to make your player run – the nunchuck is only waved to shoot and clear balls and the C and Z buttons are used as modifiers. All the...
