Blacksite Area 51

Blacksite Area 51 review

Critically panned. Disowned by its own development team. Marketed as a sequel to a game nobody bought. It’s hardly surprising that Blacksite Area 51 can be found nestling in many a dusty bargain bin. However, with the new X-Files movie hitting cinemas it seemed prudent to go back and asses whether Blacksite can provide a fix of cheap alien killing fun. The game starts off in war torn Iraq, with absolutely no aliens in sight. The controls are tight, the weapons are satisfying and Iraqi soldiers dutifully stand next to explosive barrels and/or stock still when you’re trying to shoot...

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 review

The first Rainbow Six Vegas game ended on an annoying cliffhanger and was an enjoyable single-player experience. You breached banged and cleared through a number of glitzy locations and back streets controlling two AI team-mates as you went your merry destructive way. However, it was the multiplayer mode that lasted the distance in a similar vein to Call of Duty 4. This sequel doesn’t really do much more in the single player campaign – except it does tie up all the loose ends from Vegas 1, and once again, it does deliver if you play it on Xbox Live. The...

Frontlines Fuel of War

Frontlines Fuel of War review

Frontlines: Fuel of War takes the franchise and moves it into the first-person shooter genre. Think Battlefield on the 360 and you’re close to what you have when you put this game into the beige box and listen to it sound like it’s about to take off. Of course, there’s a reason there’s more than a nod to Battlefield as the guys from DICE who made that, made this too. The story’s told through the eyes of a reporter and as a soldier in the Western Coalition you’re fighting over the world’s most valuable commodity – fuel. Tell me about...

FEAR 3

Jericho

I thought I’d make you guys aware of a new squad-based horror FPS coming out from Codemasters called Jericho. That’s if you haven’t got it on your radar already. I guess Codemasters are a bit fed up of being remembered for Colin McRae, Brian Lara Cricket and other safe games like Treasure Island Dizzy and wanted to make a truly adult game full of gore. You know, something you’ll have to play wearing bicycle clips to avoid making a mess of your carpet. This is Clive Barker’s Jericho to be precise and if you’ve ever seen his Hellraiser movie you’ll...

The Darkness review

It’s the Darkness and this one’s from Starbreeze, the developers who made the fantastic Chronicles of Riddick on the Xbox, and example of a short but fantastic game over a rubbish movie. Probably the best thing Vin Diesel’s been in to be honest. In this FPS you play a mobster called Jackie on his 21st birthday. The game starts with a car chase where you get thrown from the vehicle and soon after you get possessed by The Darkness, so instead of just using guns to slay your foes, you now get two handy snakes on each shoulder with which...
