You’ve got to give credit where credit is due. The boffins at Nintendo managed to upgrade an ordinary set of bathroom scales into an interactive piece of hardware. So after upgrading the scales with extra sensors and Bluetooth; next came the Wii Fit software which brought home exercise and yoga moves to Wii users. To cut a long story short, Wii Fit sold millions of units, millions and millions. So many millions that other publishers jumped on the bandwagon right away to develop their own Wii Fitness titles. Microsoft’s Kinect now has an official launch date of 5th November 2010 in the US and 10th November 2010 in Europe. Microsoft’s new motion-sensor (codename Project Natal) will be able to recognise your face for automatic Avatar selection, keep track of up to 20 joint movements at once and has voice recognition as well. The RGB camera combined with a depth sensor means the Kinect will also be able to see your room in 3D and therefore track your movements in 3D. Nothing before Konami’s Dance Dance Revolution made the idea of dancing in front of your TV a trendy thing to do. Thirteen years later Dance Central from the creators of Rock Band appears to be a key Microsoft Kinect title, looking to be great game for casual players with little or no dancing experience up all the way to real dance fans.
