Sonic and the Black Knight review

If you were a gamer during the 1990’s you can’t have escaped the Mario vs Sonic war that Sega and Nintendo were locked into. Of course Mario and Sonic are best buddies now and their warring ways a well behind them; face it they’re both too old and too busy with new games to star in. Without going into the complete history of Sonic’s demise (that will have to wait for another day) let’s just say that Sega didn’t quite give him the full support he needed when it came to his games on the Saturn and Dreamcast. Sonic and the Black Knight review

Sonic games seem to be two-a-penny these days (Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Chronicles The Dark Brotherhood) and Sonic and the Black Knight is Sega’s latest attempt at actually making a good Sonic game in 3D. This time he gets summoned to the world of King Arthur who looks a lot meaner than he ever was in any stories I’ve ever heard. Equipped with a sword that bounces up and down and talks to you, you’re off to defeat Arthur, running into other enemies such as Lancelot who are actually other Sonic characters Shadow, Knuckles and Amy with armour on. If you didn’t get enough arm ache with Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games then prepare for more with Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver for Wii and DS. The original game was pretty fun and showed potential for further Mario and Sonic games as well as selling very well for Sega. Sonic Unleashed review

If you’ve been following my games career over the past few years, you’ll know I’m not a massive fan of Sonic. I’ve always thought the games don’t really pose any challenge, feel like they’re playing themselves and just run far too quick to actually actively collect rings and avoid falling off ledges. Sonic Unleashed is Sega’s latest attempt to bring back the blue hedgehog’s glory days and this time they’ve turned him into a ‘Werehog’ when the sun goes down. The game begins with a very impressive cutscene where Doctor Eggman splits open a planet to release the spirit inside....

Sonic and the Black Knight release date

Sega of Europe has sent some gorgeous looking screenshots of the upcoming new Sonic game for Wii. Sonic and The Secret Rings was a sad letdown for Sonic fans who just want some old school 2D action. Will the fact that our blue friend now carries a sword to deal out punishment to his enemies appease the baying mob at Sega’s door? Well we don’t know.
