Xbox employee sacked over hardware failures

A Microsoft employee who spoke out about the Xbox 360 hardware failures has been sacked. He said on record the failure rate could be as high as 68%. Unfortunately he didn’t work out that saying this would have a 100% chance of him being sacked.

32 direction Xbox 360 controller

Microsoft are releasing a new Xbox 360 controller with an improved d-pad which registers 32 directions. It’s been in use with Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 at Leipzig and may also prevent blisters for people playing Street Fighter IV in the near future. There’s rumours circulating that Microsoft could be dropping the price of the Xbox 360 to $199 in the US as soon as next month. This would make it just over 100 quid in the UK and is sure to have Xbox virgins handing over their cash. Related: Xbox 360 Pro, Xbox 360 price cuts

Microsoft will be releasing a 60Gb Xbox 360 if a leaked email is to be believed. They’ll announce the console officially at E3 and this means they’ll be pushing their movie download service and possible full triple-A games in the near future. Related: New Xbox 360 Pro model, Xbox 360 price cuts

Leaked reports from a number of stores suggest that Microsoft is scrapping the current mid range model with a 20GB hard disk and replacing it with a 60GB version for the same price. This brings the console more consistently in line with the 120GB Elite model, providing much more storage space for Xbox Live games, trailers and demos. Whilst that is good news in itself, this does also mean there could be great chance to pick up the current 20GB premium model at a bargain price if stores decide to clear stocks.
