EA Sports Active 2 for the Xbox 360 and PS3

You’ve got to give credit where credit is due. The boffins at Nintendo managed to upgrade an ordinary set of bathroom scales into an interactive piece of hardware. So after upgrading the scales with extra sensors and Bluetooth; next came the Wii Fit software which brought home exercise and yoga moves to Wii users. To cut a long story short, Wii Fit sold millions of units, millions and millions. So many millions that other publishers jumped on the bandwagon right away to develop their own Wii Fitness titles.

Skip ahead to 2010 and EA Sports Active 2.0 is almost here and this time around is coming to all three home consoles. All versions of the software are bundled with a Heart Rate monitor and share obvious features such as the types of exercises you can participate in.

  • EA Sports Active 2 for the Wii carries on from where the original left off. Use your Wii Remote and Balance Board as well as the included Resistance Strap and Motion Sensing body band.
  • EA Sports Active 2 for the Xbox 360 also comes with a heart rate monitor but interestingly, requires the Kinect Sensor. EA have cleverly designed the game around true 1:1 interactive fitness which supposedly only be delivered by Microsoft Kinect.
  • EA Sports Active 2 for the Playstation 3 is surprisingly more like the Wii edition but sadly doesn’t support PlayStation Move.

The EA Sports Active 2 release date is November 16th 2010 in the US and November 19th 2010 in Europe.
